Dig for Victory

The events of the past few days have swirled a lot of mutinous thoughts in my head, although the poverty of ambition of the current disturbances seems far from revolutionary. This led me to be reminded of Kevin Brownlow and Andrew Mollo's 1975 film of incidents from the life of Gerrard Winstanley, 17th century reformer and leader of the Diggers, who attempted the first socialistic living experiment in this country against a backdrop of turmoil, regicide and civil war.

You dig?
Utopias are useful places of refuge for those who find reality wanting; 350 years after the collapse of the Diggers England's dreamers still find themselves up against the status quo.
